The first children’s museum was founded in Brooklyn in 1899. There are now over 340 children's museums in 23 countries around the world, which are visited by more than 34 million visitors annually. Traditional museums collect, display, and teach about objects --- cars, paintings, etc. Children’s museums combine learning with play – a concept called stealth learning. The American Academy of Pediatrics affirms the importance of play for healthy development and learning. Play enables children to perform better in school and grow into successful adults.
The Children's Museum of Santa Barbara is a proud member of the Association of Children's Museums, which serves over 340 children's museums in 23 countries. To learn more about the many wonderful children’s museums around the world, you can visit the ACM website: www.childrensmuseums.org | |
