The Redevelopment Agency of the City of Santa Barbara has identified a wonderful site for our Museum at 125 State Street, adjacent to the train depot. The location is centrally located on the City’s main thoroughfare, easily accessible by foot, bike, car, bus, shuttle, and even train.

We are planning a 15,000 square-foot Green Building with, at minimum, a Silver LEED Rating. The building will include:

  • 9,000 square feet for interactive exhibits
  • 3,000 square feet for lobby, store, multipurpose space
  • 3,000 square feet for offices,
    back-of-house functions

Barry Berkus and B3 Architects will design the building. The firm has designed more than 600,000 residences, resorts, master-planned communities, and commercial and institutional projects. Berkus projects have received over 400 design and planning awards from regional, national, and international competitions. His work has been featured in USA Today, Architectural Record, Progressive Architecture, Art News, and Architectural Digest, which named him one of the world’s “Top 100 Architects” in 1991. In 2007, he was inducted into the California Building Industry Foundation’s Hall of Fame.

Arcadia Studio was selected to do the landscape design. With offices in Santa Barbara and Arizona, Bob Cunningham and his team have received hundreds of awards for landscape design featuring innovation and sustainability.
